Center makes installing speed governors compulsory for transport vehicles.
All new transport vehicles such as trucks, buses,mini- buses and dumpers won't be able to indulge in speeding.
The center has decided to make speed limiting device mandatory for all new transport vehicles.
The Governor's will restrict the speed of commercial vehicles, which have yellow number plates, to less than 80kmph and to 60kmph for vehicles such as dumpers, tankers, school buses & hazardous goods carrying vehicles.
Emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire tenders and police vehicle have been exempted from the rule. 2,3,4 wheelers with a seating capacity of eight,weighing less than 3500 kg and a maximum speed limit of 80kmph, too, have exempted.
Every year, more than 1.25 lakh people from across the country, including 12000 from the state, lode their lives in road accidents. Earlier, the center had decided to make speed governors mandatory for all new transport vehicles from April 1, 2014, but later put it on hold, taking the objections raised by transport operators and state governments into account.
